Registration first
In Australia, nurses need registration with AHPRA through the Nursing and Midwifery Board. In New Zealand, nurses register with the Nursing Council of New Zealand. Registration is often the first and most important step.
Visa pathways in Australia
Registered nurses may apply through skilled visas such as subclass 189, 190 or 491, or through employer sponsored visas. Hospitals in Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth regularly recruit overseas nurses.
Visa pathways in New Zealand
Registered nurses are on the Green List for Straight to Residence. Nurses with registration and a job offer in Auckland, Christchurch, Wellington or Hamilton may apply for residence quickly.
