Who qualifies
Graduates who complete an eligible New Zealand qualification and meet the minimum study duration may apply for a Post Study Work Visa. The length of the visa depends on the qualification level and how long you studied in New Zealand.
Open work rights
The visa lets you work for almost any employer in any role. Graduates in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Hamilton often use this time to gain skilled experience that supports later residence applications.
Planning for residence
Choose roles that may qualify for the Skilled Migrant Category or Green List pathways. Keep track of pay rates, job titles and duties, as these will matter when you apply for residence.
Using the PSWV for residence
| Goal | What to focus on |
|---|---|
| SMC points | Skilled job and NZ work experience |
| Green List | Role on Tier 1 or Tier 2 list |
| Employer pathway | Accredited employer job offer |
- Apply within the allowed time after completing your qualification.
- Check that your qualification is on the eligible list where required.
- Target skilled roles that align with residence pathways.
- Keep payslips and job descriptions for future applications.
- Ask Myra Visa to map your residence plan during the PSWV period.
