Choosing the right test and score for your visa

Accepted tests

Both Australia and New Zealand accept major tests such as IELTS, PTE Academic, TOEFL iBT and Cambridge English, among others. Each visa sets its own minimum score.

Scores and points

For Australian skilled visas, higher English scores add points. Proficient English adds some points and Superior English adds more. For New Zealand, the SMC and some visas set minimum scores.

Validity periods

Test results have validity periods for visa purposes. For many Australian visas, results remain valid for three years, while New Zealand generally needs results from within two years.
